Text Description of
School
The heart of a Muskingum education is the strength of our academic programs.
Rated in the top tier of midwest regional colleges(1), Muskingum combines
solid classroom curricula with a level of field work and independent study
you'll rarely encounter in an undergraduate setting.
You'll be taught by professors – not graduate assistants or researchers
who occasionally teach. More than 92 percent of our faculty hold a doctorate
or the highest degree in their fields. Together, their dedication to teaching
and Muskingum's 16-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio provide a lively, challenging
atmosphere that promotes student success.
Each department at Muskingum offers its own special strengths. Our science
division, for example, is rated among the top undergraduate science programs
in the country (2). Beginning with the second year, students work in their
own lab facilities, and by the senior year, frequently publish in professional
journals or present papers at professional meetings. Exploring tomorrow's
frontiers are programs like our neuroscience major – one of the few undergraduate
programs of its kind in the nation – offering unique opportunities in
an exciting new field.
Muskingum's academic programs also let you explore beyond the classroom.
Our international exchange program provides the opportunity to study abroad
at one of more than a dozen different institutions. The Washington Semester
lets you study the American governmental system in action, and a variety
of internships combine what you've learned with real world experiences.
Regardless of the field you eventually pursue, you'll find outstanding
programs, an environment that's conducive to learning and a broad, flexible
curriculum to suit your interests.
